Natural Ways to Get Longer & Healthier Hair

If you’ve ever been on a hair growth journey, you may know firsthand that waiting for your hair to be where you want it to be can be like watching paint dry. The average amount that hair tends to grow each month is between 0.5 and 1.7 centimetres. What you may not know is that there could be underlying conditions that impact hair growing slower such as hormones, genetics, stress, vitamin deficiencies, age, and so much more! Not to worry though, just because you may be dealing with one of these doesn’t mean that it isn’t possible for you to turn the health of your hair around. In this blog post we are going to list some natural and powerful ways to get longer and healthier hair. If you’re ready to whip your hair back and forth like a superstar, keep on reading..

    Scalp Massages

One of the tried and true methods to promote hair growth is scalp massages. While many might think that the way to achieve longer locks is piling products on the hair, it really starts with the scalp. The scalp is at the root (literally) of where hair growth begins. The stimulation of blood vessels through massaging the scalp results in more blood flow which in turn helps the hair follicles receive more nutrients and oxygen to grow. Not only do scalp massages assist with hair growth but they also reduce stress, muscle tension, and promote relaxation.

    Consume Healthy Fats

Fats have had a bad reputation in our culture for many years, but more recently people are realizing just how important they actually are for our health (we’re talking the good fats here). Some healthy fats that are amazing for you include avocados, nuts, olive oil, coconut oil, and fatty fish! The specific type of fats that just so happen to be the best for hair growth are omega-3 fatty acids which are found in fish like salmon & even foods such as eggs, flax seeds, chia seeds, and hemp seeds. Omega 3 promotes circulation in the scalp and a daily intake of 600mg has been shown to make a difference in as little as a couple of months. If you’re not a fan of eating fatty fish or other omega foods, you can opt for an Omega 3 supplement which we have at NutraChamps and makes it easy to get what you need!

    Lower stress levels

As a society, we know very well just how much stress impacts the body in a negative way. Many of us can feel the impact on our health from high stress levels including anxiety, sleep issues, weight gain, and even yes – hair loss. Stress hair loss can look like finding more than normal hair falling out from brushing, washing, or touching the hair. The good news is that in most cases, hair can grow back once the peak of your stress is over. If you’re dealing with an especially stressful period in your life, one of the things you can do to help stress levels is to practice relaxation techniques. Some of these include meditation, deep breathing, and even yoga.

Get a trim for your split ends

You might be thinking, “how can a trim help my hair grow? Aren’t I just cutting off the progress?” While it might seem this way, getting a trim can actually be super beneficial for a natural and healthy hair growth. When split ends are untreated they can work their way up the the hair strands and cause more breakage to occur at the top of the head. One thing to make sure of is to clearly communicate with your stylist the intention of getting a hair trim. If too much hair is cut rather than just a slight dusting of the split ends, it will absolutely take longer to see the results you want in hair growth.

Taking biotin or and other high-quality supplements

One of the best ways to promote beauty from the inside-out is through taking a biotin supplement. A shortage of biotin in the diet can lead to brittle nails, dry skin, and even thinning hair! One of our best-selling products at NutraChamps is our high-potency biotin gummies, and for a good reason. We’ve had numerous customers tell us about their phenomenal hair growth experience using biotin! Sometimes in even just one month of taking it they notice that their hair has grown longer than usual. Other vitamins that are great for hair growth include Vitamin D, Zinc, and even Iron! We always recommend getting an in-depth blood test to check out and see if any deficiencies could be at play in why you’re experiencing a lack of hair growth.

If you’ve struggled with hair growth for quite some time, giving some of these natural hair growth remedies a try might be what you need. As we’ve mentioned, there could be many underlying factors causing hair loss or slow hair growth. It’s important to try and find the root cause while taking care of your hair in the best way possible. Here’s to longer strands!

How to Get Healthier Hair From the Inside Out

We’re often told that shampoos, conditioners, heat protectant sprays, and regular haircuts are the ultimate ways to achieve your healthiest hair. What if we told you that what you’re doing on the outside is only half the battle? The truth is that healthy hair is achieved by more than just the products you’re using.

You can use as much hair oil as you’d like but if you aren’t doing good for your body on the inside, it won’t matter. In this article, we’re going to share some helpful tips on how to obtain your strongest hair yet with the food you eat, vitamins you take, and overall lifestyle you lead!

Keep scrolling to find out how!

What is hair made up of?

Our hair is mostly made up of protein, Keratin to be exact. Keratin is a protective protein that is less susceptible to scratching or tearing than other types of cells that our body produces. The structure of our hair strands are made up of three different parts:

    1. Medulla: The innermost layer of your hair
    2. Cuticle: Your hair’s protective layer
    3. Cortex: Forms the main bulk and pigment (color) of your hair

Hair is grown from follicles which are located between the dermis and hypodermis. Our head has about 100,000 follicles, but as we age these follicles stop producing hair which results in thinning and baldness. Hair growth is dependant on a few different factors, your age, your hair type, your overall health, and other conditions. While there is no magic pill to make your hair grow fast overnight, there are things you can do to contribute to your hair’s health, strength, and growth.

Hair growth starts with taking care of yourself

Hair growth requires energy, and lots of it. Missing out on balanced nutrients, meals, and essential vitamins can definitely impact the way your hair looks and feels. Here are every day things you should make a priority, not only your hair health, but health in general:

Eating balanced meals and getting enough protein:

It is no surprise that the foods we eat directly impact our internal and external bodies. If you’re skipping out on healthy fats, not eating enough protein, or not eating enough food in general, this can contribute to hair loss, lack of shine, and slower hair growth. The essential nutrients necessary for a healthier mane include: vitamins A, C, D and E, zinc, B vitamins, iron, biotin, protein, and essential fatty acids. There are certain foods you can eat that are higher in these vitamins and nutrients than others and we’re going to list some of the very best!

    • Eggs
    • Avocado
    • Legumes
    • Nuts
    • Salmon
    • Pumpkin seeds
    • Berries

Getting adequate sleep: Sleep is pretty much good for everything and so necessary for optimal health and wellness.

Not getting enough of it can lead to a weakened immune system, stress, inflammation, and skin issues. A good night’s rest is essential for protein synthesis of hair and the releasing of enzymes and growth hormones. Lack of sleep can also result in heightened stress, which has been shown to lead to hair loss. There are three different types of hair loss that can be the result of high levels of stress:

    • Telogen effluvium: This is when stress causes hair roots to be pushed prematurely into their “resting state.”  This condition usually happens after a traumatic event, shock, or severe stress. Large amounts of shedding can occur with this condition. The good news is that this can be reversible and managed through reducing stressors, a proper diet, and procedures such as hormone replacement therapy.
    • Alopecia areata: This condition directly translates to patchy baldness. This can develop anywhere on the body and can even happen to people who are relatively healthy. Alopecia areata can begin at any age and most of the time hair re-grows within 12 months without any need for treatment.
    • Trichotillomania: This is a mental disorder which is also known as “hair-pulling disorder.” Trichotillomania is the desire to repeatedly pull on the hair and can be related to negative emotions, but also positive feelings. This is a disorder that requires treatment and if left untreated can worsen over time.

Drinking enough water: Did you know that dehydration can halt hair growth? Drinking water is important for so many bodily functions, we are made up of 60% water so that says it all! Adequate h20 levels can help support hair growth from root to tip preventing split ends, brittle hair texture, and an all-around healthier scalp. How much water you should be drinking per day varies depending on your gender, lifestyle, where you live, and so much more. Generally speaking, women need about two liters of water per day while men need about three liters.

    Supplementation for hair growth:

At NutraChamps we have specific supplements that we formulated to help optimize hair health and hair growth.
