Speaking with Joe Bitter, a NutraChamps customer full of gratitude, I couldn’t help but feel incredibly moved by his story.
A couple of weeks ago, Joe called our customer service department to share how much he loves our tart cherry gummies. As he talked about why they’ve impacted his health immensely, he began to tell us a story we could have never imagined.
In 2015, after a sudden collapse, Joe was almost pronounced dead after 38 minutes with no brain activity. A lack of blood flow to the brain in just three minutes can lead to brain injury. After 10 minutes, the chances of surviving are very low. It’s safe to say that the fact Joe is still alive today after complications with the heart and 38 minutes without brain activity is a miracle.
Before his collapse, Joe was a retired law enforcement officer. He led a very active lifestyle, which included competitive line dancing and boating. After his collapse, doctors repaired his heart valves, but a couple of years later, his heart was in distress again.
That is when Joe reached out to Mayo Clinic, a nonprofit American academic medical centre who are some of the best at what they do. They identified a minute leak within Joe’s heart through an appointment with the clinic’s sonographer. If that wasn’t found, he wouldn’t be here today.
Mayo Clinic went on to produce a 3D model of Joe’s heart to prepare for a surgery that would successfully resolve his issues. Since then, Joe’s health has improved immensely. He celebrated a 45-year wedding anniversary with his wife and returned to fishing and other activities he loves.
